Summary: |
The Summer Program Coordinator is responsible for developing, planning, organizing, executing, evaluating and reporting on the Summer Camp Program at the Mill of Kintail Conservation Area. The position is responsible for delivering outstanding customer service and ensuring all team members involved in the delivery of MVCA’s program do the same. The Coordinator works both indoors and outdoors with most work done in an outdoor environment facilitating programs. The Coordinator also helps to maintain the cleanliness and safety of Conservation Area facilities.

Full -time 4 month contract May - August
$20.95 - $26.19 per hour
Main Responsibilities (This is not an exhaustive list)
- Research and develop the summer camp program.
- Prepare weekly themes, daily itineraries, and learning materials for all aspects of the program including: a) pre-camp training of camp counsellors and volunteers; b) plans for inclement weather; c) staff illness.
- Ensure that all aspects of the program are professionally and successfully executed.
- Collaborate on the design and delivery of a marketing plan and selling of the program including the development of promotional materials and MVCA’s website.
- Ensure that the summer program page on MVCA’s website is kept up to date, including notices regarding program changes, weather alerts, contagious illnesses etc..
- Build and manage relationships with program clients including parents, guardians, and care givers.
- Communicate in an accurate, respectful and timely fashion.
- Carry out pre and post camp communication with all clients by phone, and email, and in-person to ensure correct understanding, obtain feedback, identify and resolve issues, and ensure positive experiences.
- Respond to all inquiries in a timely fashion in accordance with MVCA policies.
- Hire, train, coach/mentor, supervise and evaluate camp counsellors and volunteers.
- Maintain all program-related files including waivers, expenses, accidents and incidents etc..
- Ensure that areas used by the summer program are kept safe, tidy, and are cleaned as needed to maintain a positive park aesthetic.
- Adhere to MVCA policies and fulfill supervisor responsibilities under the OH&SA.
- Other duties as requested by the Property Manager.
Required Education/Experience/Skills
- A post-secondary diploma or degree in education, early childhood education, environmental studies, natural science, outdoor recreation or a related program OR currently enrolled in such a program.
- Experience planning and delivering programming for children in an educational or recreational setting.
- Self-reliant, self-starter, self-motivated, requiring minimal supervision.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, collaborative decision-making and analytical skills.
- Works well in a team environment as a co-contributor and as well as a leader.
- Communicates effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Standard First Aid & CPR certification
- A valid Ontario G class driver’s license (or equivalent) and driving record deemed acceptable by the MVCA.
- The successful candidate will be required to provide a clear “Vulnerable Sector Check”.
Asset Education/Experience/Skills
- Teacher’s certificate in the province of Ontario.
- Strong knowledge of the natural world.
- Experience delivering play-based learning, risky play, loose parts, inquiry-based learning, and a child centered learning environment.
Effort
- Fatigue resulting from focusing and juggling multiple priorities and deadlines.
- 70% of work is outdoors e.g. walking/hiking on trails and in natural areas with groups of children.
- 30% of work is sitting at a desk e.g. managing bookings and responding to enquiries.
- Long periods of concentration including teaching children and listening to and answering questions.
- Periods of sitting looking at a computer screen.
- Interacting with children, parents, general public on a daily basis
