Summary: |
Provides support to the Museum Curator and MVCA staff at the Mill of Kintail Conservation Area. Museum Guides play a key role in enabling the public access to the museum 7-days a week, including statutory holidays, from mid-May through mid-October. |
Main Responsibilities (This is not an exhaustive list)
- Provide interpretation to the public of the museum and collections to the public on weekends and statutory holidays.
- Conduct tours of the museum ensuring all visitors have a safe and enjoyable visit.
- Set-up and take-down chairs etc. for weddings and special events.
- Perform day-to-day housekeeping of the museum and on-site washrooms.
- Provide telephone reception service for the museum and site.
- Provide gift shop services including sales.
- Assist with installation of museum programming.
- Implement COVID and other health and safety measures in effect.
- Perform other duties as required.
Duration and Hours of Work
- 37.5 hours/week
- From the May long-weekend through to Thanksgiving, inclusive. Part-time Labour Day to Thanksgiving
Education/Experience:
- Secondary or post-secondary student.
- Successful applicant must hold a valid Emergency First Aid Certificate.
- Experience performing cash transactions.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of local history, R. Tait McKenzie or James Naismith would be an asset.
Skills/Behaviors
- Well-developed interpersonal, organizational and communication skills (written & oral) and customer service skills.
- Basic proficiency in the use of computers and Windows-based software.
- Demonstrated ability to:
- Interact with all MVCA staff and visitors in a professional manner.
- Work cooperatively with Supervisor and other staff.
- Ensure that all tasks assigned are completed with excellence and in a timely manner.
- Work independently or as a member of a team on assigned duties with minimal supervision.
Effort
- Fatigue resulting from focusing and juggling multiple accountabilities and priorities.
- Work requires some physical effort when setting up for and tidying up from events, daily housekeeping and washroom cleaning.

- Normally, indoor museum environment.
